Purr-fect to see at Christmas

by Thursday, December 24, 2015

It is Christmas and it is perfect time to spend in the West End to see how London can be inspirational and crazy in the Holiday period. I went in town to see Cats… It is one of the most branded musical and it is a pleasure to watch the transformations over the years. Based on TS Eliot’s Old Possum poems and thee ballad “Memory”, it seems to be the central point of the whole show. Cats its about life, us, how different we can be and feel. I liked the Choreography and I will definitely copy some of the steps in my Jazz routines!

When Cats exploded in 1981 it was a declaration in bold, high-energy and sleek choreography was different and seductive. However, like all ‘vintage’ product and remake, Cats was facelift last year, the music, design and choreography have been updated. Kids love it…and there is something about the whole story which is really Christmas… I think is the ‘compassion’ that you feel all the show but in particular when the Queen of the soul and R&B singer Beverley Knight as Grizabella, start to sing. She is terrific and looks genuine: “It’s Knight’s third musical on the trot and she is absolutely wonderful…singing with touching sensitivity and nuanced musicality rather just belting it out.” (Rupert Christiansen for The Telegraph).

The dance and the choreography are energetic and sparkling, particular standouts were Joseph Poulton’s Mr Mistofolees with his fantastic sequence of turns and Callum Train’s Munkustrap. Both dancers are light and sleek and perfectly fitted in the plot of ‘Cats’ re-mastered for 2015… sound like they should have been left in the 80s, but hey, that is the beauty of this show, after 35 years still get your hearts because its about life, death, nevrosis, friendship, power and leadership . This 2015 revival really inspired me and Dame Gillian Lynne’s choreography is not dated, but fresh, classy and evergreen.

‘Cats’ is a unique a show as ever: purr-fect to see at Christmas!

I really enjoy the set design and make up and costumes and here my inspirational story! Happy Christmas lovelies…
